Saddam Hussein en Irak et Bachar el-Assad en Syrie, ont été invariablement présentés comme « d’affreux dictateurs ». Comment se fait-il donc qu’ils aient été aussi les plus bienveillants envers les chrétiens d’orient, comme n’a jamais cessé d’en témoigner l’historienne, Annie Laurent, spécialiste des chrétiens d’orient, depuis des années ? Les « combattants de la liberté », plus ou moins barbus, qu’on nous propose à leur place s’empressent, eux, de massacrer, violer, brûler ceux qui sont attachés à la vraie foi.
Le Président syrien, accompagné de son épouse et de ses enfants, ont célébré Noël en rendant visite, dimanche 25 décembre, au monastère Notre-Dame et au village chrétien de Saydnaya, non loin de Damas. La famille Assad a fait le tour de la ville historique pendant plusieurs heures le dimanche en compagnie des moniales du monastère de Notre-Dame de Saydnaya. La famille Assad a prononcé des vœux chaleureux à l’occasion de cette fête chrétienne et a été ovationnée par les centaines de chrétiens de village. L’année dernière, le Président et sa famille avaient rendu visite au village chrétien de Maaloula qui venait d’être libéré, marquant ainsi leur visite annuelle pour célébrer Noël avec les chrétiens de leur pays.
