L’explosion s’est produite lundi après-midi à proximité du marché aux poissons de cette ville au nord-est du Nigeria selon Danlami Ajaokuta, un milicien dont les propos ont été confirmés par un habitant du quartier. Les deux hommes ont dit craindre de nombreuses victimes. Il y aurait au moins 20 morts rapporte l’AFP.
Danlami Ajaokuta déclare : «Nous avons entendu une grosse explosion au moment où on se préparait pour les prières de l’après-midi», il ajoute : «C’est arrivé dans la gare routière attenante au marché aux poissons», «J’ai vu des gens courir vers les lieux de l’explosion», a indiqué un habitant qui se trouvait devant un distributeur de billets lorsque l’explosion s’est produite.
On ignore, pour l’instant, l’origine exacte de cette explosion, mais le groupe islamiste Boko Haram, dont les violences ont fait plus de 15 000 morts depuis 2009, a souvent pris pour cible des gares de bus et des marchés très fréquentés par le passé, spécifie la même source.
Notons que Maiduguri, la capitale de l’Etat de Borno est régulièrement la cible des attaques islamistes de Boko Haram.
