Cette attaque a eu lieu vendredi à Mogadiscio et a été caractérisée par deux explosions, suivies de tirs à l’arme pendant une heure. Ibrahim Mohamed, l’un des responsables de la police somalienne, a témoigné : « L’une des explosions a eu lieu près du Peace Garden et l’autre près de l’hôtel (voisin) SYL. J’ai vu 12 civils tués, mais le nombre de morts pourrait être bien plus élevé ».
Les islamistes shebabs ont revendiqué cette attaque par le biais d’un communiqué posté sur leur compte Instagram : « Des membres des moudjahidines ont lancé une attaque contre l’hôtel SYL près du palais présidentiel. L’attaque a débuté par un attentat-suicide et une fusillade s’en est suivie »
Précisons que l’hôtel SYL est l’un des établissements de bon standing de la capitale somalienne et le peace garden est un jardin public situé à côté de cet hôtel.
