Cette attaque a eu lieu dans la nuit de lundi à mardi dans les localités de la région d’Ijara au nord-est du pays. Les terroristes avaient attaqué un convoi de huit véhicules de police. Cinq ont été brûlés.
Selon la BBC, les terroristes s’étaient emparés de plusieurs localités dont le village de Yumbis à environ 80 kilomètres de Garissa, et avaient même pu repousser les soldats kenyans avant que des renforts soient envoyés. Durant ces quelques moments de siège, les terroristes avaient pu faire flotter leurs drapeaux sur quelques villages.
Dans un communiqué, les islamistes affirment avoir tué 25 policiers alors que les médias locaux parlent d’une vingtaine.
Pour les autorités, seul un policier aurait été blessé…
