Emmanuel Macron, président de la République française, et Giuseppe Conte, chef de gouvernement de l’Italie, vont finalement se rencontrer demain vendredi 15 juin, malgré les tensions entre les deux pays au sujet de l’affaire de l’Aquarius.
Hier Conte avait prévenu la France que sans excuses de la part du gouvernement français il ne maintiendrait pas ce rendez-vous. Cette nuit un coup de fil, cordial selon l’Élysée, a dégelé la situation. Emmanuel Macron a appelé son collègue italien pour s’excuser :
« Nous n’avons jamais voulu offenser l’Italie. »
« Le président français a souligné ne pas avoir prononcé de mots destinés à offenser l’Italie et le peuple italien » déclare le cabinet du chef de gouvernement italien.
Macron et Conte se verront donc à Paris pour affronter « les nombres dossiers de commun intérêt » dont le plus important est, sans aucun doute possible, celui de l’immigration.
