En Allemagne, un vif débat a éclaté à la suite de la proposition faite par les partis de gauche : pour Noël, introduire des chants musulmans dans les églises ! Les politiciens des partis SPD (socialistes), Verts et du Parti de gauche avaient suggéré cela comme « un geste de paix et un signe de compréhension ».
Le Conseil central des musulmans en Allemagne s’était évidemment félicité de la proposition.
«Ce serait un grand signe de paix entre les religions si une chanson musulmane était chantée dans une église et un chant de Noël chanté dans une mosquée », a déclaré le politicien Omid Nouripour (écologistes) au journal Bild. Le social-démocrate Thomas Funk en a rajouté: « Nous avons besoin de compréhension, de respect et de tolérance, ce serait bien si nous pouvions le faire en chantant une chanson… »
Wolfgang Bosbach, vice-président de la CDU / CSU, parti de la chancelière Merkel a réagi avec colère: « Noël n’est pas un rendez-vous multiculturel et inter-religieux, mais une fête chrétienne et ce sont des chants chrétiens qui y sont chantés et cela restera ainsi ».
Quant à la Conférence des évêques catholiques, elle s’est limitée à déclarer que les chants traditionnellement chantés depuis des siècles dans les églises étaient des chants de paix.
