Cette caserne de l’armée algérienne est située dans la localité de Oued Chaaba à plus d’une dizaine de kilomètres du chef-lieu de Batna.
L’attaque a été menée au habhab (mortier artisanal) vers minuit par un groupe important de djihadistes d’Al-Qaida au Maghreb Islamique contre une caserne. Ils ont touché des câbles d’électricité. Il y a eu trois blessés légers. L’armée a riposté.
Selon des habitants, l’armée a utilisé des hélicoptères pour traquer les terroristes. Des tirs nourris ont été entendus et l’électricité a été coupée dans la zone.
La caserne attaquée est une ancienne base de la garde communale qui a été récupérée par l’ANP pour servir à un détachement militaire. Les djihadistes ont usé d’abord d’une bombe qu’ils ont lancée à l’intérieur avant de tenter un assaut. L’attaque a été repoussée par les militaires.
