Melinda Ann French a épousé en 1994 Bill Gates, le fondateur et PDG de Microsoft. Le couple est aujourd’hui à la tête de la plus importante fortune américaine estimée à 72 milliards de dollars selon le magazine « Forbes ».
Depuis quelques années, Melinda Gates s’occupe beaucoup de « philanthropie » par le biais de la Fondation Bill & Melinda Gates dont le montant du capital s’élevait à 37 milliards de dollars en 2012. Philanthropie, vraiment ? Celle qui est considérée par « Forbes » comme la troisième femme la plus puissante au monde a une interprétation particulière de ce mot. Avec cette Fondation Gates, elle œuvre ainsi à promouvoir la contraception en Afrique. Notamment au Sénégal dont elle a fait l’un de ses pays pilotes pour le planning familial. En 2015, le taux de contraception devrait avoir plus que doublé à la suite de la « philanthropie » de Mme Gates.
La Fondation Bill & Melinda Gates a également lancé un concours pour inciter les laboratoires internationaux à créer « des préservatifs qui donnent plus de plaisir ». Pour Melinda Gates, il s’agit de « montrer que nous prenons le planning familial très au sérieux puisque nous y investissons beaucoup d’argent ».
Les Gates mettent aussi la main à la poche pour financer le lobby homosexuel et soutenir les campagnes en faveur de la dénaturation du mariage.
Mais il n’y a pas que la régulation des naissances et la cause homosexuelle qui intéressent Mme Gates. Il faut aussi selon elle accentuer la mondialisation en cours. Elle soutient par exemple M-Pesa, un moyen de payement par téléphone mobile lancé par Vodafone avec Safaricom au Kenya. Et la milliardaire de se féliciter que 86% des foyers kenyans ont déjà au moins un compte M-Pesa, même ceux qui vivent avec… moins de 2 dollars par jour !
