A Ferguson, les tensions raciales continuent d’être palpables et, chaque jour, des noirs manifestent pour reprocher ce qu’ils considèrent être le racisme des policiers blancs. Mais ces manifestations se sont fréquemment muées en pillages de commerces et en occasions d’agressions gratuites.
C’est dans ce climat explosif que les Oath Keepers ont fait leur apparition depuis lundi, armés de fusils d’assaut, et bien décidés à sécuriser la ville !
Les Oath Keepers (littéralement, les « Gardiens du Serment ») sont connus comme des défenseurs du second amendement de la Constitution américaine qui garantit le droit de posséder et de porter des armes à feu. Cette organisation fondée en 2009 compte parmi ses membres et sympathisants beaucoup d’anciens militaires, anciens policiers ou anciens agents de sécurité.
Forts du second amendement de la Constitution américaine, des Oath Keepers ont donc commencé à patrouiller ostensiblement dans Ferguson, armés de fusils d’assaut. Certains prennent place la nuit sur des toits d’immeubles, notamment de commerces, pour veiller à ce qu’il n’y ait plus de pillages.
Beaucoup de médias mainstream tentent de faire passer les Oath Keepers pour une milice raciste (ce qui rappelle la manipulation autour du drapeau confédéré) mais de nombreux citoyens noirs applaudissent l’arrivée de ces hommes décidés à simplement mettre fin à l’insécurité dans les rues de la ville.
Ils dérangent les autorités parce qu’ils démontrent qu’il est possible de rétablir l’ordre quand on y met les moyens et la détermination.
