Slobodan Praljak avait été général des forces croates de Bosnie. C’est à ce titre qu’il répondait d’accusation de crimes de guerre.
Lorsque le Tribunal pénal international pour l’ex-Yougoslavie (TPIY), siégeant à La Haye (Pays-Bas), a prononcé une condamnation à 20 ans de prison, le général Slobodan Praljak, 72 ans, a clamé « Praljak n’est pas un criminel ! » avant de sortir une fiole de poison et d’en avaler le contenu.
Conduit à l’hôpital, il est décédé de cet empoisonnement.
