C’était jour d’élection hier aussi en Italie. Les transalpins allaient aux urnes pour élire leurs nouveaux maires.
Un signal fort contre l’actuelle politique immigrophile du gouvernement italien a été donné par les habitants de l’île de Lampedusa, une des premières destinations des migrants méditerranéens.
Malgré le soutien inconditionnel du pape François et de l’ancien président des États-Unis, Barak Obama, malgré son Prix Nobel pour la paix qui lui fut donné par l’Unesco, la mairesse sortante, Giusi Nicolini, membre du Parti Démocrate, très bobo-gaucho, perd son fauteuil. Les Lampédusiens l’ont rejetée et sa politique d’accueil à outrance avec.
Le nouveau maire, Salvatore Martello, a déjà prévenu :
« Maintenant concernant l’accueil, cela va changer. »
Salvatore Martello, chef de son parti Movimento Susemuni (Levons-nous), qui a gouverné l’île dans les années 90’, a obtenu 40,3 % des voix. Giusi Nicolini, la championne des migrants, n’a recueilli que 24,28 % des voix et arrive en troisième position. Elle n’a pas réussi à convaincre ses concitoyens de la bonté de sa ligne immigrationniste : les Lampédusiens, fatigués des débarquements continuels, -plus de 2000 migrants ces deux derniers jours- l’ont recalée.
Le nouveau maire est sur le sujet migratoire beaucoup plus ferme :
