Royaume-Uni – Un attentat a frappé Manchester lundi soir, dans une salle de concert. Un terroriste a fait sauter un « engin explosif improvisé » à la fin d’un concert pour ados d’Ariana Grande, dans la salle Arena de Manchester (Angleterre), faisant 22 morts, dont des enfants.
L’attentat suicide a fait au moins 22 morts, dont des enfants, et 59 blessés, devenant l’attaque la plus meurtrière visant le Royaume-Uni depuis douze ans.
Selon la police, le terroriste est mort en faisant détonner un engin explosif. L’explosion a eu lieu dans le foyer de la Manchester Arena, une salle de 20.000 personnes, à la fin du concert de la chanteuse américaine Ariana Grande vers 22h30.
La ministre de l’Intérieur Amber Rudd a dénoncé une « attaque barbare visant délibérément parmi les plus vulnérables de notre société: des jeunes et des enfants sortis pour aller voir un concert pop ».
L’explosion a provoqué des scènes de panique dans la salle de concert, mais aussi dehors, où des parents attendaient la sortie de leurs enfants.
« Nous travaillons à établir tous les détails de ce qui est traité par la police comme une épouvantable attaque terroriste », a réagi la Première ministre britannique Theresa May, en exprimant sa sympathie aux familles.
Mme May et son rival travailliste Jeremy Corbyn ont décidé de « suspendre jusqu’à nouvel ordre » leur campagne en vue des élections législatives du 8 juin, a déclaré M. Corbyn, cité par l’agence Press Association.
Cet attentat s’est déroulé deux mois jour pour jour après celui de Londres qui avait fait 5 morts, lorsqu’un homme avait foncé dans la foule avec un véhicule et poignardé un policier avant d’être abattu, près du Parlement.
La chanteuse Ariana Grande s’est dite « brisée » par l’attentat.
