Présente aux funérailles de Fidel Castro, Ségolène Royal, seule membre d’un gouvernement européen, avec le Premier ministre grec Alexis Tsipras (d’extrême gauche), à avoir fait le déplacement à Cuba, a déclenché une salve de critiques en déclarant aux médias :
« C’est un monument de l’histoire, d’abord, Fidel Castro. Grâce à lui, les Cubains ont récupéré leur territoire, leur vie, leur destin. Ils se sont inspirés de la Révolution française sans pour autant connaître la terreur qu’il y a eue pendant la Révolution française. »
De partout affluent les critiques. Des Républicains et du Front National, bien sûr, mais aussi d’autres membres du parti socialiste, y compris au sein du gouvernement. Au point que Jack Lang a émis l’hypothèse qu’elle avait abusé d’un peu trop de rhum…
