Le pape François a eu la bien fâcheuse idée d’aller en Suède pour les fêtes des 500 ans de la réforme luthérienne. Par-delà la question de fond de sa « repentance »,  il est intéressant de savoir comment s’est passée cette visite. François a fait l’objet d’un mépris total tant des autorités que de la population. En effet personne n’avait souhaité ni demandé sa présence.

À son arrivée en avion, il n’y avait que trois membres du gouvernement pour l’accueillir, une petite fanfare et  une petite section de soldats. Quatre représentants des protestants et cinq ecclésiastiques catholiques.  Rien de plus : le protocole minimum. L’accueil a été aussi froid que le temps ambiant. Pas de public, ni même un petit gamin à embrasser. Le pape a été reçu comme le chef d’une petite île d’Océanie.

Bizarrement le pape a été installé dans un établissement médical. Puis il est passé voir le roi Gustave et la reine Sylvia. Pas de réception officielle, mais un simple verre d’eau, deux poires, une grappe de raisin ; le tout à la limite d’une l’offense qui aurait pu entraîner des problèmes diplomatiques. Était-ce la volonté du pape de se faire humilier et ainsi aller à Canossa ? En réalité, dans cette affaire, il était demandeur. On lui fit bien sentir qu’il n’était guère le bienvenu. Il lui a bien été fait sentir qu’il faisait l’objet d’un total mépris.

Lors des allocutions, personne ne fit mention des titres du pape, style vicaire du Christ, pontife romain, sa Sainteté, Souverain Pontife etc. Le titre de pape lui a été ôté même pas remplacé par « évêque de Rome ».   

Conjointement dans la rue, sans doute manipulée par les autorités, une foule de jeunes portaient des mitres en papier ou des vêtements religieux pour se moquer de l’Église catholique et de François.

De plus, le pape n’avait pas prévu de dire une messe pour les catholiques (1% de la population) à Malmö. Il préférait aller discuter avec les luthériens plutôt que de s’occuper de ses propres fidèles ; ceux-ci ont montré leur désappointement et vinrent se plaindre. Le pape alors se décida quand même ; mais les catholiques étaient furieux car dans son sermon, il leur donna le conseil de travailler avec les protestants luthériens : ce fut très mal pris.

La conclusion est simple: Francis s’est honteusement auto-invité ; il a été méprisé autant que possible. Pire encore, il a demandé aux quelques catholiques de Suède de suivre son exemple humiliant pour l’Église. Bref un fiasco total.
