Israël se félicite de l’arrivée de Boris Johnson aux Affaires étrangères, selon le choix de Theresa May. Tous les deux sont considérés comme de précieux amis d’Israël et de la communauté juive.
Ancien maire de Londres et député d’Uxbridge et de South Ruislip, Boris Johnson est vu par la presse israélienne comme l’un des plus pro-israéliens des politiciens britanniques, notamment pour son engagement contre le boycott d’Israël.
En 2015, lors d’un voyage officiel en Israël, Boris Johnson avait fait part de ses racines juives lors de sa visite au Kotel, déclarant : « Du côté de ma mère, j’ai des ancêtres juifs originaires de Moscou dont certains étaient des rabbins ».
