L’ouverture du Vatican aux femmes se poursuit résolument sous le pontificat du pape François.
Le pape François en acceptant la démission du Père Frederico Lombardi, porte-parole du Vatican depuis 2006, a choisi un nouveau directeur de la Salle de presse du Saint-Siège, Greg Burke, qui prendra ses fonctions à partir du 1er août 2016, et sera assisté par une journaliste espagnole, au poste de vice-directeur, Paloma García Ovejero, âgée de 41 ans.
Ces changements marquent le retour d’un laïc au Bureau de presse de la Cité papale. Né en 1959 à Saint-Louis aux États-Unis dans une famille catholique pratiquante, Greg Burke s’est spécialisé dans le journalisme. Il est membre de l’Opus Dei. Et un parfait petit soldat des médias maintream.
Il a travaillé auprès de la « United Press International » de Chicago, pour « Reuters » et pour l’hebdomadaire « Metropolitan », jusqu’à son envoi à Rome comme correspondant du « National Catholic Register ». Il travaillera également pour Fox News. Et en 2012, la Secrétairie d’État du Vatican, section affaires générales, l’appelle pour qu’il soit leur consultant pour la Communication. Depuis le 21 décembre 2015, il est le vice-directeur de la Salle de Presse du Saint-Siège.
Son ancienne place va donc être reprise par l’espagnole Paloma García Ovejero. Correspondante à Rome depuis 2002 de la COPE, la radio de la Conférence des évêques espagnols, elle sera la première femme dans l’histoire de la communication vaticane à être promue vice-directeur.
Un autre pas du pape François vers la féminisation de l’Église et son désir d’associer toujours plus de femmes à son gouvernement, « Les femmes sont comme les fraises dans un gâteau, il en faut toujours plus », avait-t-il dit en 2014.
Pourtant la récente affaire Vatileaks, au style renaissance avec ses relents d’aventures amoureuses entre le monsignor Baldi et l’italo-marocaine Francesca Chouaqui, vraies ou fausses peu importe, devrait faire réfléchir le pontife sur le danger de faire entrer des femmes dans le monde ecclésiastique.
Mais qui sommes-nous pour juger, n’est-ce pas?
