Israël – Lehava est un mouvement raciste juif qui s’oppose aux mariages entre juifs et non-juifs. Son président est Bentzi Gopstein. Celui-ci a participé mardi dernier à un débat sur la loi religieuse juive aux côtés du rabbin Moché Klein, le rabbin des hôpitaux Hadassah ; de Tsuriel Krispal, le maire-adjoint d’Elad ; et de Benny Rabinovitch, qui écrit dans le journal ultra-orthodoxe Yated Neeman.
On se souviendra de l’incendie criminel à l’église de la Multiplication en juin dernier. La police a arrêté trois suspects juifs, dont certains ont été impliqués dans de précédentes attaques contre des sites chrétiens en Israël.
Or, un enregistrement du débat de mardi dernier a été publié le lendemain par le site d’informations ultra-orthodoxe Kikar Hashabat.
Au cours du débat, Rabinovitch a demandé à Gopstein s’il appelait à incendier des églises. « Selon Maïmonide, vous devez brûler [les églises], êtes-vous contre Maïmonide ou en faveur de Maïmonide ? », a répondu Gopstein .
« Ne me parlez pas de Maïmonide, je vous ai demandé ce que vous en pensez », dit Rabinovitch. « Bien sûr que je suis pour », a alors déclaré Gopstein.
La semaine dernière, un rapport interne des services de sécurité du Shin Bet avait conclu qu’il n’y avait pas suffisamment de preuves pour placer ce mouvement Lehava sur liste noire…
Gopstein a répondu aux médias rapportant qu’il préconisait de brûler les églises en disant : « La loi est simple, l’interprétation de Maïmonide est que l’on doit brûler l’idolâtrie. Il n’y a pas un seul rabbin qui peut contester ce fait. Je pense que le gouvernement d’Israël doit l’appliquer ».
Avec l’accord du Vatican, la custodie franciscaine en charge des lieux saints vient d’écrire ce lundi à l’avocat général israélien pour lui demander de poursuivre Benzi Gopstein en justice pour ses propos antichrétiens.
