Selon la police égyptienne, ces six islamistes égyptiens ont été pendus ce dimanche 17 mai pour avoir mené des attaques pour le compte du groupe armé Ansar Beit al-Maqdess, qui a prêté allégeance à l’organisation de l’Etat islamique.
Ces six hommes avaient été en fait condamnés à la peine capitale juste après la destitution de l’ancien président islamiste Mohamed Morsi en 2013 et un tribunal avait confirmé cette sentence en 2014. Le procureur avait alors affirmé qu’ils étaient membres du groupe Ansar Beït al Maqdess («les Partisans de Jérusalem» en arabe), considéré comme la branche égyptienne de l’organisation djihadiste Etat islamique, depuis qu’il a fait allégeance à l’EI et pris le nom de «Province du Sinaï».
Ils ont été exécutés dans une prison du Caire. Leur exécution est intervenue au lendemain de la condamnation à mort de l’ex-président Morsi et d’une centaine d’autres accusés pour des évasions de prison et des violences durant la révolte populaire de 2011 contre Hosni Moubarak. Notons que parmi les personnes condamnées, figure le guide suprême de la confrérie des Frères musulmans de M. Morsi, Mohamed Badie. Ces condamnations doivent encore recueillir l’avis, non contraignant, du mufti d’Egypte avant d’être confirmées ou infirmées le 2 juin.
