L’Elysée a annoncé ce matin dans un communiqué de presse la mort d’un sous-officier du 1er REG (régiment étranger du génie) au Mali. Le soldat participait à une mission de reconnaissance dans la région d’Al Mouastarat. Le président a présenté ses condoléances à la famille et a rappelé que les forces françaises agissaient pour assurer la souveraineté du Mali. Le ministère de la Défense devrait donner plus de précisions dans la journée sur les circonstances de la mort et l’identité du militaire.
Add. : Le ministère a apporté des éclaircissements quant à la mort du militaire français. Ce dernier s’appelle Dejvid Nikolic. Âgé de 45 ans, il était né en Serbie et naturalisé français. Il a été mortellement touché lors d’une attaque terroriste contre des véhicules blindés de l’opération Serval, le 14 juillet. Lors de cette même attaque sept militaires ont été touchés par l’explosion, dont trois grièvement parmi lesquels l’adjudant-chef Dejvid Nikolic. C’est le 9ème soldat mort au Mali depuis le début de l’opération Serval.
