Le cardinal Joseph Tobin, archevêque de Newark, New Jersey, est devenu membre de la Congrégation pour l’Éducation catholique.
Mgr Tobin est notoirement connu pour ses positions gay-friendly. Dans un entretien passé au programme télévisé Today Show, il avait notamment affirmé que l’expression « intrinsèquement désordonnés » concernant les actes homosexuels et contenue dans le Catéchisme « est un langage malheureux. Espérons qu’à la fin ce langage sera un peu moins douloureux », pour les homosexuels qui se sentent attaqués il va s’en dire.
Le 21 mai 2017, le cardinal américain donna son consentement à « un pèlerinage Lgbt » dans la cathédrale-basilique du Sacré-Cœur et accueillit personnellement tous ceux qui entrèrent dans l’église.
Mgr Tobin est également un inconditionnel du jésuite, lui-aussi gay-friendly, James Martin. L’évêque a particulièrement apprécié le livre de ce dernier, Construire un pont : comment l’Église catholique et la communauté Lgbt peuvent instaurer une relation de respect, de compassion et de sensibilité, dans lequel le père Martin se déclare en faveur de l’homosexualité dans l’Église. L’éloge cardinalice fut dithyrambique :
« Dans de trop nombreuses parties de notre Église les personnes Lgbt sentent qu’elles ne sont pas les bienvenues, qu’elles sont exclues et même critiquées. Le courageux, prophétique et stimulant livre du père Martin accomplit un pas essentiel en invitant les chefs de l’Église à accompagner avec plus de compassion les catholiques Lgbt et en rappelant à ces derniers qu’ils font partie de notre Église comme chaque catholique. »
Voici donc ce cardinal totalement à l’ouest, vantant des comportements sexuels qui n’ont rien de catholique, nommé à la Congrégation pour l’Éducation catholique ! Le cardinal Tobin étant un membre de la clique McCarrick, certains pensent que cette nomination sert aussi à le mettre diplomatiquement à l’abri de la justice américaine du New-Jersey qui enquête à Newark où l’ancien copain homosexuel McCarrick a longtemps sévi. Les couleurs arc-en-ciel sont-elles là pour cacher la sombre chute du Vatican bergoglien aux yeux du monde médiatique et mondain ?
